Daily Activities

Mornings 9-11:30

Mornings are dedicated to sharing our teaching horses with riders of any level. Beginners are welcome. Safety is emphasized in all aspects of riding and working with horses. We'll play games to enhance riders' strength, balance, and touch communication with their equine partners. You'll also participate in horse care and management. Parents are invited to engage with their children in our “horse experience”!

What to Wear for Horse Activities

All riders are required to wear long pants, hard sole shoes with a 1” heel, and an ASTM-CEI approved riding helmet, which we can provide.

*Please note that severe wind, inclement weather, or heat index above 90°F are health hazards which prevent riding.

Lunch and Changing Break 11:00-12:00

Please provide lunch and a water bottle. Afternoon outdoor activities require a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and a change into cooler shorts and old tennis shoes if desired. A swimming suit and towel may be required on especially hot days to swim in the pond. During this time, campers will be provided a journal so they can discuss and write about their daily experience at camp.

Afternoon 12:00-3:30

“From then till Now” Iowa History and Survival Camp. We will discover the skills, tools, arts, food, music and play that the Native Americans and early settlers from around the world shared with one another when choosing to make Iowa their home. Each week's adventure will be unique and may include building a shelter, digging clay and making a pot, weaving a basket, building a fire, searching for fossils, casting wild animal footprints, making tools, toys, and musical instruments, and sharing customs of food, clothing, dance and fun.

Mission Statement:

“It is our goal at Centaur Stable to surround your children with experiences in and of the nature of horses, to remind them of their relationship with the Earth and her creatures, and help them see the fragile balance we must preserve for their futures.

We hope to show your children the quiet beauty of this world and themselves, so they leave here with a strengthened sense of what it truly means to call Earth their home.”
